Fund

A pooled investment where many investors' money is combined and managed according to a strategy.
ETF

A fund that trades on a stock exchange, often used to track an index such as the FTSE 100 or S&P 500.
Money market fund

A low-risk fund that invests in short-term cash-like instruments. It aims for stability but is still an investment, not a bank account.
Cash savings

Money held in bank or building society savings accounts. Usually lower risk, but returns may not keep pace with inflation.
Bond fund

A fund that invests in loans issued by governments or companies. Often less volatile than shares, but still carries risk.
Equity fund

A fund that invests in company shares. It can grow strongly over time but can fall significantly in value.
Multi-asset fund

A fund that combines assets such as shares, bonds and cash in one product.
Individual share

A direct investment in one company. This can be higher risk because your outcome depends heavily on that company.
